Piccolo Teatro

Yesterday, as I was reviewing notes and drafts for future blog posts, my daughter came up to me and asked,

“Whatcha doin’, Dad?”

I answered simply, “Reviewing posts for my blog.”

She paused for a moment, then asked,

“You have a blog? What’s it called?”

“Inkblotz,” I replied.

She wrinkled her brow.

“Why Inkblotz? What does that mean?”

And just like that, I was taken back to the moment I first came up with the name.

It originally started as the name of a middle school photojournalism club I created years ago to encourage students to write, to see the world through a different lens, and to document their discoveries along the way. The idea behind the name was inspired by a scene from the movie Charly, based on Daniel Keyes’ short story, Flowers for Algernon.

So… Why Inkblotz?

Are you familiar with the Rorschach test?

In the Rorschach, the viewer is shown a series of inkblots — ambiguous, abstract forms. What each person sees in them varies, often shaped by their own emotions, personal experiences, psychology, and worldview. There are no right or wrong answers — only interpretation.

That’s the core of this blog.

Inkblotz is a space where I share my observations on life’s events — sometimes deeply personal, sometimes widely relevant. I write about what I notice, what I feel, and what I imagine others might be feeling too. You may see things differently. You might agree, or you might not. And that’s completely okay.

My hope is that each post — whether it’s a fleeting thought, an unfinished sentence, or a multi-layered essay — sparks something. A moment of reflection. A conversation. A memory. Even a challenge to one’s current perspective.

Topics may range from something as mundane as how items are shelved at Walmart, to a favorite recipe, to something as complex as a reaction to a headline dominating local or global news — or as simple and beautiful as humans just being human.

Some posts will invite discussion.

Others may simply ask to be observed.

But above all, Inkblotz exists to inspire reflection and, when possible, honest and open dialogue.

What this space is not about: negativity, division, judgment, or whining.

We all interpret the world through the lens of our experiences — our own personal inkblotz.

This blog is a reflection of mine.

Some entries may resonate. Others may challenge. But if anything you read here makes you pause, think, feel, or see something differently — even for a moment — then this space has done what it was meant to do.

So take a look. Sit with what you see.

Read between the lines.

And maybe, just maybe — you’ll see something of yourself in the inkblots, too.

Welcome to Inkblotz.
