Is there such a thing as over-writing?

We’ve all heard the term overeating. Some of us have lived it. No point in lying about it. Just accept it and move on.

There’s over-drinking. Over-exercising. Overworking. Over-seasoning (no one asked for that much paprika, sir). Over-texting — because three question marks in a row is not punctuation, it’s a cry for help.

So naturally, my brain — which has the stability of a folding chair at a family barbecue — asked:

Is there such a thing as over-writing?

This thought arrived shortly after WordPress sent me a cheerful little notification:

“You’re on an 8 day streak on INKBLOTZ!”

Eight days.

That’s not a streak. That’s a lifestyle choice.

And this came right after I posted a piece called Using Words Like Paper Airplanes. Which is either poetic… or a sign I need supervision.

I got to thinking — am I overdoing it? Am I putting too much of my writing out there? Is mystery better than momentum? Does scarcity make the heart grow fonder… or just forgetful?

Generally, I post stories about experiences I’ve lived and ones I’ve watched others stumble heroically through. Occasionally I’ll drop an opinion piece — or at least my version of one.

Less “breaking news,” more “here’s what my heart tripped over this week.” It’s a mixed bag. A literary trail mix. Some sweet. Some salty. Occasionally a hard raisin you weren’t expecting.

But they all carry that storyteller flavor.

I’ve said before that my mind is run by a dozen over-caffeinated ADHD monkeys. They do not sit politely at desks. They do not outline. They fight over the keyboard. They throw bananas at deadlines. They swing from one idea to the next like it’s a creative jungle gym and I’m just hanging on hoping they spell something correctly.

And posting the way I do sometimes feels like letting those monkeys livestream their strategy meetings.

Maybe — just maybe — the world doesn’t quite know what to make of that.

Eight days in a row.

Is that discipline?

Is that obsession?

Is that the digital equivalent of double-dipping at the buffet of self-expression?

Am I overwhelming readers? Becoming background noise? Showing up so often that the knock on the door stops being exciting and starts being, “Oh. It’s him again. With another metaphor.”

Wow.

Did I just have a mini epiphany? A breakthrough?

Likely not.

That’s probably just the coffee talking.

Because here’s the thing: over-writing isn’t really about frequency. It’s about emptiness. It’s about filling space because silence feels uncomfortable. It’s about publishing words that haven’t lived long enough inside you to mean something.

And if I’m honest, these pieces — even the playful ones — aren’t coming from emptiness. They’re coming from memory. From reflection. From that quiet place where stories sit and wait to be noticed.

So maybe this isn’t over-writing.

Maybe this is a flow season.

Maybe this is what happens when the monkeys find Wi-Fi.

Eight days in a row.

We’ll see what tomorrow brings.

But if WordPress sends me a 30-day badge, someone please check on me.

There’s more waiting at https://xinkblotz.com. Telling stories, sharing thoughts, and drinking coffee. A blend of fiction, reflection, and whatever’s brewing – one post at a time.

    I love your humor.
I have over-written most of my life. We won’t bother to count the endless notebooks at this juncture but, they exist. I would get that 30 day badge multiple times over should anyone see my pen to paper stash.
I’ve gotten the WordPress ones and they always make me feel wide eyed and surprised. Why in the world is there ‘someone’ keeping track of that and why do they think it’s a notable to thing to share with me. I simply feel over exposed and as though I’m imposing myself on other people. I go through the mental exercise of reminding me it their reader I’m on and they can skip me if they want to.
I do know people who schedule posts or only post once a week or so. For the reasons you mentioned above. I’m more or less post one of the fifteen things I’ve written in the past hour and made public ready. 😂
Nice opportunity to laugh and reflect. Thanks for that

      Yeah. Thank you!
I think it’s just how I’m wired. These are my default settings. I’ve been a tinkerer and ponderer all my life, but the writer bit…. That’s fairly recent. But yes, the thoughts keep flowing.
